How We Help You Downsize

How We Help You Downsize

Downsizing can feel like a huge emotional and logistical challenge, especially when you’ve lived in your home for years or are helping a parent make a move. Whether you’re preparing for retirement, simplifying life after a loss, or moving into a smaller home, Simply Downsized offers full service help throughout the Washington D.C. Metro and Northern Virginia areas to make every step easier.

We are your personalized downsizing concierge ready to guide you through planning, sorting, moving, selling, and more, taking the stress off your shoulders so you can focus on your next chapter.

Our approach is flexible and always centered on what matters most to you. We don’t believe in one-size-fits-all solutions. Instead, we create a customized plan that fits your unique situation, timeline, and budget.

We also work with overwhelmed families navigating a move for a loved one or managing after-loss and estate services from afar.

What makes our model unique is we are a fully credentialed and accountable one-stop partner in downsizing and can help you manage all the moving pieces, including the real estate component. We are your first stop to downsizing.

Step One: Your Free Phone Consultation

Everything begins with a friendly conversation. When you reach out to Simply Downsized, we’ll schedule a phone call at a time that works for you. This is your chance to tell us about your situation. Are you planning a move in the next few months? Do you need help sorting through decades of belongings? Are you coordinating a move for a parent?

During this call, we’ll listen to understand your goals, concerns, and any special circumstances. We’ll answer your questions about our services, explain how we work, and give you a clear sense of how we can help. There’s no pressure and no obligation. This is simply an opportunity for us to get to know each other and see if we’re a good fit.

Step Two: In-Home Visit and Assessment

Once we’ve connected by phone, we’ll invite you to schedule an in-home consultation. This visit is essential because it allows us to understand all of your goals and constraints. We’ll walk through your home together, room by room, while you share your thoughts about what you’d like to keep, what needs to go, and what feels uncertain.

Our goal is to learn as much as possible about your specific situation. We want to understand your priorities and your vision for your next home. Maybe you’re worried about fitting your favorite furniture into a smaller space. Perhaps you’re unsure about what to do with items that have sentimental value but won’t fit in your new place. Maybe you are overwhelmed with boxes of photos. Or you might feel stuck not knowing where to even begin.

We’ll take the time to hear your concerns and gather all the information we need to create your personalized plan. By the end of this visit, you’ll already feel more at ease knowing you have a partner who understands your situation.

Step Three: Your Customized Action Plan

After the visit, we’ll create your personalized downsizing plan. This is your clear, organized roadmap that covers every step, from sorting to moving day.

Your plan may include floor planning, sorting, packing/moving/unpacking, estate clear out coordination, and other specialized services.  We’ll also recommend trusted professionals for any service you may require . You’ll know exactly what’s happening and when, without researching services, juggling multiple estimates or worrying about logistics.

We work with trusted, insured, and reliable professionals throughout the area, and we’ll be there to oversee the entire process. You’ll always know what’s happening, when it’s happening, and who’s responsible for each task. We keep everything organized and on track, so nothing falls through the cracks.

Moving Forward Together

Once you approve your customized plan, we put it into action. We coordinate with all the service providers, manage the schedule, and stay in close communication with you throughout the process. You’re never left wondering what comes next or feeling like you need to handle things on your own.

We can be as involved as you need us to be. Some clients want us to manage everything from beginning to end, while others prefer to handle certain tasks themselves with our guidance and support. Either way, we’re here for you.
